It was a 2 Day event happening in Varkala Cliff on 7th & 8th of November 2019 organized by CouchSurfing, Kochi Team. But out of curiousity & excitement, I reached Varkala on 6th of November.
Booked a dorm in a beautiful backpackers hostel, Lost Hostel. <3
I thought it will be just me. But people started coming. The nomads, Travel Vloggers, Business Owners, Yoga Trainers and what not? Oh My God! What a beautiful crowd, it was.
Karthik from Bangalore & Tamila from Brazil was already there. We spend a good time together. Having food, grabbing beer and walking in the beautiful Varkala beach & Cliff.
For those who doesn’t know what CouchSurfing is..
It’s a travel app which helps travelers meet and stay with locals across the globe, in short. But if you dive deep into the app, You will get to know that couchsurfing is not just a travel app.
You have friends all over the world, you just haven’t met them yet.CouchSurfing.com
The idea behind the app is to connect travelers with Locals who can host the travelers in their house. Travelers can meet locals, stay in their house, hangout in the city with the locals, learn their culture and eat local food.
In return, The locals (hosts) can meet travelers, hear their stories & learn things from them.
Now, Coming back to the Varkala and the Lost Hostel.
A beautiful backpackers hostel close to the Varkala beach. Good People. Good Vibes.
Lost hostel is a go to place if you are somebody looking for some peace and good tribe. Most of us stayed in the same hostel. There is a guitar and a small library in the hostel.
What else do a free soul need? Spent lot of time with the folks there. With music, books, dances, stories and everything in between.
We were all sharing our stories sitting on the courtyard, And a young lady from Germany joined us in the evening. And she started Dancing. <3
Most of them reached by evening for the CouchSurfing Kerala Mega Event happening on the next day.
The organizers reached. Sujithettan, Ratheesh, Luqman to name a few.
We could help them with the arrangements. They had put a lot of effort to organize the event.
The registration started at 11 in the morning. More and more people started coming in. By noon, it was a crowd of 100+ people carrying the same vibe from different parts of the world.
We started with self intros. We got to know people better. Made a lot of friends.
Met Barbara from there. A 75 year old YOUNG WOMAN.
She started couchsurfing from past 15 years. Hosted 250+ travelers. A lady with 600+ references.
Barbara is half paralyzed from an accident. And she accompanied us to the beach. 🙂
What’s your reason for not traveling?
Met Danielle during Lunch. He is a Veterinary Doctor from Italy. A guy with long golden hairs. He wanted to explore India before he joins for a job. He wanted to touch the soul of the country.
I believe he is in search for spirituality.
Spend evening in the beautiful Varkala Beach. I didn’t dive into the water. I was silently observing the mob from the sand. The lives. <3
Met Saijaana. She is from Trivandrum. A free soul in her mid 20s. An explorer. We sat on the rocks in the corner of the beach, Sharing our stories.
People are awesome. One or the other way they will give you a reason to do more.
After Dinner, They had organized a beautiful musical event. A night with lot of music.
After that we even had a campfire. People who are singing, dancing and some are busy capturing videos and images.
A beautiful night!
Started the day with Yoga in the beautiful Varkala beach. Jenni coordinated it. People went back to their dorms for fresh up.
We all gathered again for breakfast. Followed by discussions on traveling. An informative session, Of Course. The stories and informations have motivated me to travel more.
Many might have got inspired, I believe.
Norbu had organized lot of games after the session. It was fun and super energetic. Prasanth gifted his painting through a lucky draw.
I bought a beautiful Mug with “Couchsurfing” printed on it.
Met Saijaana again, After the event. We discussed coffee over a cup of coffee from the Coffee Temple. She wanted to start a Coffee Cafe in Kovalam. ☕️
I haven’t met any of these guys other than Sujithettan before the event. Now I am connected with lot of amazing people around the globe. People with different idea of living. Those who decided to look at life from a whole new perspective!
